47-year-old Cork furniture business expands with new showroom and outlet at Sunbeam

Cork, August 28, 2026 — The Furniture Centre is set to open a new outlet on the Mallow Road this Monday, August 31, marking the latest chapter in the story of a family-run Cork business that has been operating for 47 years.

The new Furniture Centre Outlet will officially open at 11am on Monday at Sunbeam, next to Blackpool Shopping Centre, following the transformation of an existing warehouse into a fully fitted showroom.

The Furniture Centre has been a familiar name in Cork for almost five decades. Founded by Teddy Barry, the business has been based in Blackpool for many years and its name also became well known through sponsorship of local sporting teams, including Rockmount.

Today, the business continues to be operated by the Barry family, with Evelyn, Brian and Delorus and their family involved in the business, alongside Teddy and Betty.

The new outlet will feature a wide range of new furniture, including sofas and matching suites, dining tables and chairs, armchairs, beds, mattresses, mirrors and lighting.

The Furniture Centre sources products from manufacturers and suppliers in Ireland and internationally, with a strong selection of Irish-made furniture alongside products from the UK, Italy and Spain.

Irish suppliers represented include established manufacturers such as Tara Lane, Orchard Upholstery and Connolly Furniture, while the business also works with international suppliers including Vida Living and manufacturers from Italy and Spain.

The new outlet will also offer a selection of brand-new one-off and end-of-line pieces that have been held in stock. These include items such as marble dining tables and dining chairs which, because of limited quantities, could not be individually promoted through the main business.

Customers will also find a large selection of beds and mattresses, ranging from single beds through to super king sizes. Mattresses will be available boxed and ready to go, with delivery options also available.

The Furniture Centre says the outlet will allow it to offer existing stock to customers while continuing to bring through new models and ranges as items are sold.

The business has retained its long-standing motto of “Top Quality Furniture and Great Value”, with the new outlet continuing that approach.

The Furniture Centre Outlet will open to the public at 11 am on Monday, August 31, at Sunbeam, next to Blackpool Shopping Centre on the Mallow Road.
